A Polish restaurant with one of the best Friday fish fries in town, Polonez's chef and co-owner (with wife Aleksandra) George Burzynski was named a "chef to watch" by restaurant critic Ann Christenson in Milwaukee Magazine's Best Dining issue in 2003. His recipes for pierogies, stuffed cabbage, and creamed herring came with him from the old country, which he left in 1980.
This is not the place for those on a diet! If mushroom soup is available, order it. It's the best mushroom soup in the area. In fact, all of the soups are tasty. Prices for food are quite reasonable. While the wine list isn't extensive, the beer selection is exceptional. In Poland, it is unusual for a restaurant to serve more than three or four varieties of beer, but there are more than 20 at Polonez, including Okocim, Zywiec, Hevelius, Jurand and even a Polish version of an Irish stout.
